Department of Science for Advanced Materials student Yuki Kawaguchi won the Outstanding Poster Award at the 14th International Conference on Nitride Semiconductors, ICNS-14

Yuki Kawaguchi, a student of Department of Science for Advanced Materials, Faculty of Engineering, University of Yamanashi (Supervisor: Prof. Masaru Sakai), won the Outstanding Poster Award at the 14th International Conference on Nitride Semiconductors, ICNS-14, held at Hilton Fukuoka Sea Hawk on November 12 to 17, 2023.

The awarded subject is "Whispering gallery mode oscillation in wurtzite and zinc-blende GaN microdisks". They observed, compared, and evaluated the whispering gallery mode (WGM) oscillation in wurtzite and zinc-blende gallium nitride (GaN) microdisks, where the crystal system is hexagonal and cubic, respectively. The results are expected to be applied to novel WGM microlasers in the future.

"I am very honored to win the Outstanding Poster Award at ICNS-14," said Kawaguchi. "I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Professor Masaru Sakai for his guidance and to everyone in my laboratory who supported me in receiving this award. With this award as motivation, I will continue to do my best in my research."
