Mr. Masaoka Sho received an excellent presentation award in the 51st Japan National Conference on Geotechnical Engineering held at Okayama University on September 13 – 15th, 2016.

The title of his presentation was “Geotechnical mechanism of large scaled-shallow landslides of Izu-Oshima by heavy rainfall in 2013.10”. This aimed is to elucidate the mechanism of occurrence of large scaled-shallow landslides that occurred at the layer boundary between the volcanic ash layer and the loess layer of Izu Oshima, and it shows that the difference in particle size, permeability and strength properties in volcanic ash and less is one of the causes of shallow landslides.

He said “I am honored to have received such an award. This award was awarded not only to my ability but also to the support of Professor Goto and co-authors who gave me guidance, and those of the Geotechnical Laboratory that we have studied together. I deeply appreciate it.”
